An automated border control system, developed by the Swiss IT and communications service provider SITA, has been introduced in the arrivals hall of Kutaisi International Airport. The system is currently operating in test mode and will be fully launched in October.
At this stage, 7 electronic gates (e-gates) have been activated in the arrivals area. With the e-gate system, adult Georgian citizens no longer need to wait in long queues upon arrival. By scanning their passport and verifying biometric data, they can easily enter the country.
The 7 e-gates significantly reduce processing time, cutting waiting time from 40 seconds to just 18 seconds per passenger. The total investment in the project amounted to 1.6 million GEL.
In the departures hall, an e-gate system supplied by the French high-tech company RESA ELECTRONIQUE has already been in use for several months. This automated boarding system allows passengers to scan their boarding pass at the reader, after which the gate opens automatically.
The system reduces queues, speeds up passenger flow, and makes the travel experience through Kutaisi International Airport even more comfortable.
