Direct regular flights between Slovakia’s capital
and Georgia have started. Wizz Air operates three weekly flights on the
Bratislava–Kutaisi–Bratislava route and will add a fourth weekly flight
starting in March.
The official inaugural flight ceremony was
attended by Slovak Ambassador to Georgia Matúš Bušovský, Levan Moseshlvili,
Director General of United Airports of Georgia, and Mari Devidze, Head of
the Imereti DMO.
According to Moseshlvili, there had previously
been no direct flights between Georgia and Slovakia, and the Bratislava–Kutaisi
route now represents the first direct air connection between the two countries.
“Starting today, Kutaisi International Airport
has added another important European destination – Bratislava. This is a key
step in diversifying our air routes and the result of successful cooperation
between United Airports of Georgia and our strategic partner Wizz Air. This
route allows direct flights between Georgia and Slovakia for the first time
from Kutaisi Airport. The new route will further strengthen Kutaisi
International Airport’s role in the region and create additional opportunities
for passengers, tourism, and aviation in Georgia,” Moseshlvili said.
On the first flight, 192 passengers arrived from
Bratislava, and 237 passengers departed to Bratislava. Passengers on the
inaugural flight were presented with symbolic gifts by United Airports of
Georgia as part of the traditional welcome.
